Dad charged after daughter hit by bullet meant for boyfriend

A man accused of shooting his daughter at the family's home while aiming for her boyfriend is being held in jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Dante D. White, 49, was arrested after he shot his 25-year-old daughter in the arm about 2 p.m. Saturday. White had been arguing with the daughter’s boyfriend and had demanded that he leave the family’s home.  The argument escalated and led to a single gunshot that struck the daughter when she stepped between her dad and boyfriend. The daughter was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was initially in good condition.

White was arrested a short while later and showed police where he had disposed of the gun in a trash can near the home. Officers say the .25-caliber firearm had its serial number obscured, which is illegal.

This is not a good story for dad's in America.  Every dad has probably gone through the experience of wanted to take a warning shot at a boyfriend who was up to no good.  Maybe give him a flesh would to make sure he understood you meant business.  But charging this dad changes everything.  Perhaps fathers will be hesitant to even threaten to shoot boyfriends.  Not a good day for dads.
