A Chatham-Kent OPP officer registered a white 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS travelling 212 km/h on radar in a 100 kph posted zone near the Merlin Road overpass at 1:53 p.m.
Given the velocities involved, it took officers about 20 minutes to halt the car in a safe manner.
Further investigation revealed two passengers in the rear seat, a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, who were not properly secured in their child-booster seats, police said. The woman and her two children were taken to Chatham-Kent OPP headquarters where she was charged with dangerous driving, two counts of racing a motor vehicle and two counts of fail to ensure toddler properly secured.
The luxury car, which sells at a base price of about $85,000, was towed to an impound for the prescribed seven-day penalty and the woman's driver's licence was suspended for seven days.
You're not buy a set a wheels like that to be driving 100 km/h. In fact she was even close to top speed which is supposedly 250 km/h. I like the way it took the OPP 20 minutes to catch up with her. That is going to be a $10,000 fine. Ouch!
