I have often disagreed with Brian Burke. This blog is filled with posts critiquing his moves, his attitude and pontifications. But as a person, Burke is first class.
Sometimes its quite visible and other times its behind the scene but there many charitable causes that Burke gets involved with. Most notably the You Can Play Project, founded by his son, Patrick, in honor of the late Brendan, one of the Burke siblings who passed away in a car accident two years ago.
More recently he and 50 business leaders slept outside in a parking lot in downtown Toronto and were given just a sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard. It was pretty cold last Thursday night. The good cause was Covenant House, a shelter for homeless youth that provides assistance to young people in need.
Burke isn't just a big mouth. He steps up when needed. I like that a lot.
